Mapleton Methodist Women plan Community Day

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

The Mapleton Methodist Women are stepping out into the community and want to try holding a Community Day. On Saturday, March 17, we would like to invite anyone and everyone from the surrounding communities to a St. Patrick’s Day-themed get together and potluck lunch at the church. Anyone who wishes to bring a dish is invited to, but it isn’t necessary. After lunch we will have some music, activities and other surprises. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Hopefully this will turn into a monthly get together for our town. Please mark your calendar and come join us!

Unclaimed property

Are you aware that the state of Maine has a listing of unclaimed property for residents of our community? All you need to do is visit www.maine.gov/treasurer/unclaimed_property/. Select search/claim property, click on “go” and enter your first and last name or town in the spaces provided. You may be surprised to see how many local people have property, including money that has been unclaimed for a period of time. In a time where finances are tight for many, this may come as an unexpected, timely surprise for some. Take a minute to check the list to see if you have something that is owed to you that you may have forgotten about!

Cookies are in

If you ordered Girl Scout cookies, local Scouts will be out and about delivering this week and next. Mapleton Troop 1133 had five troop members sell over 300 boxes to earn their free week at Girl Scout camp this summer. Thank you so much for your support.

Second March luncheon

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will be hosting a second March luncheon Friday, March 30 at 11:30 a.m. All are invited to attend. There will not be a luncheon April 6 in observance of Good Friday.

Spaghetti dinner

There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Saturday, March 10 at the Lion’s Hall in Mapleton from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The menu will include spaghetti with meat or meatless sauce, rolls, brownie a la mode and a beverage. Donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go toward the 2012 Discover D.C. Trip that will be taken during April vacation by students and staff from Presque Isle Middle School. This trip is not affiliated with SAD 1.

March 8 meeting

Mapleton Lions Club will be having a meeting tomorrow, Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mapleton Lions Hall, for anyone who is interested in supporting the Mapleton Daze effort. Any club, organization, church or business is encouraged to send representatives to discuss and plan the 2012 Mapleton Daze weekend. Any volunteers who would like to support Mapleton Daze are welcome to attend.

The Mapleton Lions Club believes Mapleton Daze is an important event for the three towns. Many of the events will go forward including the Family and Friends Get Together on Friday night, the two-day Maple Meadow Farm Festival, the Mapleton High School reunion dinner, and the Haystack Historical Society pie and ice cream social. What is undecided is whether there will be volunteers to step forward for the Saturday morning children activities, the parade and other Mapleton Daze activities.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for everyone who is concerned about Mapleton Daze to come and plan the festival’s future. There will be a Mapleton Daze. The only question is “Will you be willing to part of its future?” Please come and join the effort.
