PRESQUE ISLE – Richard D. Downing, 79, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Presque Isle on May 23, 1932, the son of Clarence Thibeau and Marguerite Downing.

    He served in the U.S. Army. Richard worked as an office manager for Bridge Construction Co. in Presque Isle for many years. He was a past member of the Presque Isle Elks. He loved to read, and loved his dogs, Molly and Lacy. Richard’s favorite saying was “keep it simple”.

    He is survived by his wife, Donna (Davenport) Downing of Presque Isle; a daughter, Pamela Johnson and her husband, Loring of Fort Fairfield; a step-son, Levi Soucier and his wife, Lisa of Presque Isle; two sisters, Carolan “Kay” Strout of Presque Isle, and Cynthia Bradfield of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren, Jason Noelke and his wife, Angela, Dana, Megan and Daniel Soucier, all of Presque Isle; two great-grandchildren, Cyrus and Bella; sister-in-law, Devona Downing; as well as several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Downing; and a step-son, Dale Soucier.
