American Flag ColorCYPRESS, TX – Daniel Edwin Woodman Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2012, surrounded by family in his home.

Born in Trenton, NJ, on June 7, 1922, to Daniel E. Sr. and Mae Reilly Woodman, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Turner of Westfield, ME; step-mother, Elizabeth Oatman; brother, Robert (Marianne) Woodman; sisters, Nancy (Robert) Grayson and Jane (Jakie) Schrum; and children, Michael (Diane) Woodman, Patrick (Monica) Woodman, Kelly (Jerry) Wolff, and Kevin (Cyndi) Woodman; along with ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He left Ohio State University to enlist in the USMC during WW II, where he was chosen to attend Naval pilot training as a flying Sergeant, being commissioned an Ensign in the USN. His wartime tours included both the Atlantic and Pacific, where he was shot down and captured by the Japanese during the attack on Manila Bay. Following WW II, he flew briefly for Eastern Airlines, but his desire was to be in the military, so he entered the USAF where he flew until retiring in 1960.

After leaving the military, he was involved in education and was a high school teacher, along with his wife, until they retired from Riverhead, NY. They then lived in Franklinville, NY, for twenty-three years, and made their final move to Cypress, TX, in 2011.

Dan will be remembered most for taking his daily bike ride (weather permitting), working diligently in the yard with his little dog Andie, having a smile and a story for anyone who walked by, and for his terrific sense of humor which shined to the very end.

Interment will be at a later date in Westfield, ME.
