CARIBOU — Flurries were flying this past week, burying The County with double-digit snowfall from north to south during two weather events on Feb. 25 and Feb. 27.
Fort Kent was hit the hardest during the Feb. 25 snow storm with 19.5 inches of snow, and Monday’s storm brought another three inches for the community.
Though Houlton received the most snow during Monday’s snowfall with 4.5 inches, the county seat was on the “lower end” of Saturday’s stormy wrath. With recording snowfalls of 10 to 11 inches in multiple locations, however, “lower end” is still nearly a foot of snow.
Central Aroostook stood in the middle ground for both storms. Presque Isle received between 12 and 13.5 inches of snow during the Saturday storm and four inches on Monday; Caribou received 13 inches on Saturday and kicked off the week with 3.9 inches on Monday.
According to Noelle Runyan, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Caribou office, Saturday’s storm was the largest snowfall Aroostook’s seen all year.
