BLACKSTONE, Roberta Sue (Thornton), 54, CARIBOU, at Bangor, February 19, 2012. Funeral will be on Sat., Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, Caribou. Arrangements in care of Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.

    CARIBOU – Roberta Sue (Thornton) Blackstone, 54, passed away after a brief illness in Bangor on February 19, peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones.  Roberta was born March 2, 1957, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Philip D. Thornton and Bess I. (Green) Thornton. She graduated from Caribou High School in 1975. Shortly after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Murray D. Blackstone, and started their family of three children and living many happy years in Caribou. She loved gardening, fishing, crafting, cooking, working on the farm and most of all her family.

    Her love of flowers earned her the Caribou Garden Club Beautification Award in 2000. This honor inspired her to open Farmhouse Greenhouse in 2005 fulfilling a life-long dream. Her dedication to the family farm aided in  being named Maine Potato Board Farm Family of the Year in 2008.

    Roberta is survived by her husband, Murray D. and three children, Murray Dan Blackstone and his wife, Sheri (Dyer) Blackstone, Jenny Sue (Blackstone) Coon and her husband, Matthew Coon, Bill Douglas Blackstone and fiance, Laura McGlinn, all of Caribou; four grandchildren, Sheridan Mae Blackstone, Brendan Dyer Blackstone, Nolan Scott Coon and Lily Ann Coon all of Caribou. She is also survived by her brothers & sisters, Cynthia A. Heron and Jeffery C. of Caribou, Robert Thornton of Ashland, John Thornton and Karyn of Woodland; her father and mother-in-law, Orman and Lauretta Blackstone; her brother-in-laws and their wives, Sam and Patty Blackstone and Kyle and Michele Blackstone; and her sister-in-law and her husband, Jola and Gary Hebert, all of Caribou.

    She is loved and will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Predeceased by her father, Philip D. Thornton.

    Calling hours are Friday, February 24, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. The funeral will be Saturday, February 25, at 2 p.m., Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Caribou.
