American Flag ColorEASTON – George Washington Rhoades, 85, died Monday, February 13, 2012, at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. He was born on February 22, 1926, in Houlton, the son of the late Victor and Josephine (Ketchum) Rhoades.

    After attending Houlton schools, George served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class. He was a 40-year member of the Vermont American Legion Post 25. George lived in Michigan and Connecticut before returning to Aroostook County in 1991. While in Connecticut, he and his business partner, Eric, operated a drywall company known as Rhoades and Haberern Drywall.

    George is survived by his wife and best friend, Kay A. (Grieves) Rhoades of Easton; three sons and their wives: Scott E. and Ellie Rhoades of Storrs, CT, Berry G. and Brenda Rhoades of Nashua, NH, Brian C. and Marilyn Rhoades of Ancho, New Mexico; seven grandchildren: Andrea Martin, Summer, Nathan, Julie, Tracy, Lance, and Alex Rhoades; and seven great-grandchildren.

    He was predeceased by a sister, Francis; and a brother, Victor.
