Rec Department gets new tractor

    PRESQUE ISLE — Purchasing a new tractor for use by the Recreation and Parks Department was one of several decisions made by City Council at Monday night’s meeting.

    Councilors voted unanimously to approve a bid from Theriault Equipment Inc. of Presque Isle to replace a 1977-model tractor currently in use by the department. Councilors authorized Chairman Emily Smith and City Treasurer Patricia Webb to obtain financing for a John Deere 4520 tractor from Katahdin Trust Co. in an amount not to exceed $48,183.47, for a period not to exceed four years and at an interest rate of 3.24 percent.

    In other business, councilors:

• Approved special permits for music, dancing and entertainment for Pienana, Inc., d/b/a Irish Setter Pub, 710 Main St., and for ARAMARK Educational Services, LLC, d/b/a University of Maine at Presque Isle, 181 Main St.;

• Approved malt, spirituous and vinous liquor licenses for ARAMARK Educational Services, LLC, d/b/a University of Maine at Presque Isle, 181 Main St., and for Freddy’s Brew Pub, LLC, d/b/a Freddy’s Brew Pub, 431 Main St.;

• Held the first of two public hearings to amend Chapter 49 — Administration of Government Ordinance and to amend Chapter 5 — Traffic Regulations Ordinance. The second public hearing for both amendments is scheduled for March 5;

• Approved amendments to the Presque Isle Development Fund bylaws;

• Postponed approving amendments to the Downtown Revitalization Committee’s bylaws until after the organization’s next board meeting, at the request of the DRC board. Councilors tabled the vote until their next regularly scheduled meeting on March 5;

• Approved amendments to Administration of Government Policy;

• Approved changing the yield sign to a stop sign at the intersection of Hillside and Blake streets;

• Appointed Tim Lavin to the Downtown Revitalization Committee, for a term of four years;

• Approved consent agenda items; and

• Appointed Milt Smith as a trustee to the Presque Isle Sewer District, with the term expiring March 2014.
