PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club’s 60th annual Talent Revue served as a fundraiser for the St. Appollonia Dental Clinic, which will be located on Academy Street in Presque Isle and serve low-income children from the region.
“This year’s Talent Revue benefited the Appollonia Dental Clinic. We raised a little over $2,000 for the project,” said LaNiece Winslow, club president.
Prior to the performances, Winslow dedicated the show to a longtime supporter.
“Jan Kok could not be here this evening. His dedication has made the show what it is for the past 59 years. We dedicate this year’s event to Jan,” said Winslow.
Shawn Cunningham Cloukey and President-Elect Keith Madore served as emcees again this year, entertaining the audience with a few laughs between acts. Performers took the stage in four categories this year: Elementary for youth up to grade 5, Middle School for youth grades 6-8, students in grades 9-12 in the High School division, with all older performers taking the stage in the Adult category.
Although 20 acts were scheduled to perform, three were unable to attend, including: Noelle Cote who was slated to sing in the Middle School division; Dylan Shaw, scheduled to sing in the High School category; and in the Adult division, Nicole Adams, who was listed as a vocal performance, was unable to perform.
In the Elementary division, Mayce Kinney, singing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” earned first place for her effort. Sydney Chavez took second place, performing a clogging dance as her talent. The Northstar Twirlers performed a baton twirling routine to round out the category.
In the Middle School division, Kimberly Cook took the first-place award by performing a clogging dance to Iggy Pop’s “Real Wild Child.” Cook also was recognized for selling the most tickets. Taking second place were Yessenia Vilar, Sadie Kinney and Kimberly Cook, with the trio doing a hip-hop dance. Makayla Shackett rounded out the age group, performing a ballet routine for her talent.
In the High School division, Jordan Buckley sang Christina Aguilera’s “Hurt,” earning the first-place award in the process. Sarah McEachern took second place, entertaining with a clogging routine. Also competing in this age group were: Emily Brawn who did American Sign Language to music; Erica Hemphill, who performed a ballet en pointe routine; Jordyn Shaw, who offered a vocal selection; and MoonDance AllStars, with a hip-hop dance routine.
In the Adult division, Kathleen Higgins won first place, singing and playing guitar to Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass.” Julea Gorneault took the second-place honor, clogging for her talent. Other contestants included: Sarah Gorneault, who entertained with a lyrical dance number; Sophie Willette, who offered a vocal selection; and Ryan Carney, singing and playing guitar to a self-composed song.
Presque Isle High School Key Club members provided entertainment while the judges made their final decisions, performing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
In honor of Kok, performers and the audience closed the show by singing “America the Beautiful.”
