Washburn’s McLaughlin
reaches scoring milestone against GHCA
The rivalry is renewed tonight as the Presque Isle boys make the short trip to Caribou to take on the Vikings. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Also this evening Washburn is in the St. John Valley to play the Fort Kent Warriors, who handed the Beavers their only loss this season.
From the past week a local player topped the 1,000-point mark and Central Aroostook remained unbeaten, but plays their strongest competition of the season.
Here’s a recap of games played through Monday, Jan. 9:
Washburn 80, GHCA 53 — The Washburn Beavers faced Greater Houlton Christian Academy on Monday at the University of Maine Presque Isle and Jordan McLaughlin registered his 1,000 career-point. McLaughlin scored the first 10 points for the Beavers as they rolled to an 80-53 win.
Mitch Worcester led the 6-1 Beavers with 32 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals. McLaughlin finished with 24 points.
Adam Little led 3-3 Greater Houlton Christian Academy with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Micah Wiley added 13 points.
Southern Aroostook 79, Ashland 56 — At Ashland Monday, Patrick Goodall and Jessie Boulier connected for 22 points each to power the Warriors to victory.
Joe Frazier scored 11 points for Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.
Tyler Levesque registered a game-high 24 points for Ashland. Freshman Cody Blair scored 13 points.
Caribou 49, Old Town 41 — Caribou used a 17-7 advantage in the third quarter to take the lead and hold off the host Coyotes Saturday after Old Town led 20-16 at the half.
Chad Caverhill and Dayne Savage led the 5-4 Vikings with 13 points each. All Caverhill’s points came in the second half. Cody Herbert added 11.
Garrett Libby led 2-7 Old Town with 11 points.
Easton 60, Fort Fairfield 41 — At Fort Fairfield Saturday, a close game at the end of the first half turned out to be a 19-point win for the Easton Bears.
Reid Clark paced the 9-1 winners with 22 points and Hunter Turner added 10.
Andrew Lewis scored 16 points to lead 2-7 Fort Fairfield and Brandon Clark netted 10.

Central Aroostook 61, Hodgdon 56 — Playing their second tough opponent in two days Central Aroostook was able to down the Hawks in Hodgdon on Saturday to remain unbeaten.
The 8-0 Panthers were led by Brendan York, who had a game-high 19. Mike McClung added 15 and Chandler Brewer had 12.
The 6-2 Hawks were led by Nick Lunn who had 18 while Chris Hudson had 14 and Josh Hudson added 11.
Hermon 41, Presque Isle 40 — The Presque Isle Wildcats came up one point short in a Saturday contest with the Hermon Hawks in Hermon.
Earlier this year Presque Isle beat the Hawks with relative ease. In this game Hermon got out to an early lead and held on despite being outscored by the Wildcats 15-6 in the fourth quarter.
Fritz Marseille led Hermon with 12 points and Braddock Deabay added 10.
The leading scorer for Presque Isle was Tyler Brooks with 15 points. Andrew Kofstad added 12 points, all in the second half.
Central Aroostook 56, Fort Kent 47 — Central Aroostook’s unbeaten record faced a stiff test on Friday when the Fort Kent Warriors visited the Panther Palace.
Mike McClung scored 20 points to lead the Panthers to their seventh victory. Brendan York chipped in with 18 points for the winners and Dan Brewer netted eight.
Charlie Nadeau scored a game-high 26 points for 7-2 Fort Kent and Thomas Enerva netted 14.
Van Buren 57, Limestone/MSSM 31 — At Van Buren Friday, Eric Laplante and Caleb Roy tossed in 16 points each to propel the Crusaders to victory.
Marc Lajoie added 11 points for 2-6 Van Buren, who outscored the Eagles 31-9 in the second half.
Brandon Thompson led Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics (4-4) with 10 points. Chris Bernier posted eight points.
Fort Fairfield 55, Madawaska 49 — The Fort Fairfield Tigers collected their second win of the season on Thursday at home against the Madwaska Owls.
Andrew Lewis had a big game scoring 26 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the win. Brandon Clark chipped in with 10 points and 17 rebounds for the Tigers.
Matt Deschenes paced Madawaska with 21 points and Ian Lee added nine.
Presque Isle 82, Fort Kent 71 — The Presque Isle Wildcats traveled to Fort Kent Wednesday and handed the Warriors their first loss of the season, 82-71.
Andrew Kofstad had 31 points for Presque Isle. Matt Eager added 16 points and Tyler Brooks scored 15 points.
Presque Isle upped their record to 6-2.
Curtis Bouchard led 7-1 Fort Kent with 25 points, while Tom Enerva had 16 points and Charlie Nadeau scored 11.
Washburn 94, Wisdom 35 — Washburn’s high-powered offense was at it again on Wednesday in St. Agatha. The Beavers topped the Pioneers, 94-35.
Washburn improves to 5-1 and Wisdom falls to 1-6.
Caribou 50, Houlton 45 — At Houlton Wednesday, the Vikings went 15-for-19 from the foul line and outscored the Shiretowners 21-15 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Cody Herbert led Caribou (4-4) with 16 points. Dayne Savage scored 11 points and Matt Milliard posted nine.
Kyle Bouchard had a game-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers for 2-5 Houlton.
Easton 66, Ashland 24 — The Easton Bears pushed their record to 6-1 on Wednesday with home win over Ashland.
Reid Clark paced Easton with 18 points. Holden Turner chipped in 13, and Jared Hafford and Jonah Bacon added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Tyler Levesque had eight points to lead Ashland.
Central Aroostook 86, Fort Fairfield 39 — At Mars Hill Jan. 3, the Panthers used a balanced scoring attack to improve their record to 6-0.
Chandler Brewer scored 17 points to lead the winners. Dan Brewer, Mike McClung and Joe Stiles each added 15 points.
For the 1-6 Tigers, Dereck Dufour scored 10 points and Andrew Lewis netted nine.
