Student of the Month for November

CONGRATULATIONS to Nick Bragg, the Washburn District High School Student of the Month for November. Most of us see Nick on the athletic field all through the year as he participates in cross-country, soccer, volleyball, basketball and baseball. In the high school halls, Nick greets everyone with a smile. His participation and scholastic abilities in the classroom have earned him the respect of the high school students and staff.
Bath salts presentation
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 9 a.m., Allison Heidorn and Dustin Damboise from Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention will be providing information about the dangers and symptoms of bath salts. This presentation will be held in the high school gymnasium and will be for all grade 7-12 students. Community members are invited and encouraged to attend.
Those attending will learn: what are bath salts; how are they used; the effects of bath salts; how substance abuse impacts the teen brain; signs of overdose and use; and how to respond to overdose and addiction.

QUILTING FOR A CAUSE — The Washburn Trail Runners’ clubhouse was a very busy place as 20 ambitious volunteers worked together to make 70 finished quilts for Quilting for Hospice as part of Make A Difference Day. Many thanks go to every one of the workers and donors of fabric, supplies, blocks, quilts and food. Organizers are so very pleased with each person that so willingly worked at whatever needed to be done. The results speak well for all the hard work undertaken that day. Plans are already under way for another day of quilting. Pictured in front, from left, are: Joyce Boyington and Vella Condon. In back: Wanita Hallowell, Pat Graham (out of sight), Gwen Bragg and Judy Bougie.
The Washburn Trail Runners Snowmobile Club is advising there are a few trees down north of the clubhouse. Recent high winds have caused blow-downs. Please use caution on the trails.
The club will be open beginning Jan. 7 and 8, offering breakfast and lunch, and will continue every weekend until the end of the snowmobile season. Offerings include bacon, ham, sausage, eggs, French toast, pancakes, home fries, beverages, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, ham and cheese sandwiches, grilled cheese, French fries and stew. The public is invited to come enjoy a warm meal on the weekends throughout the snowmobile season. A children’s and senior citizens’ menu is also available.
For more information on the club, look them up on Facebook or call 455-3439.
