To the editor:
During this holiday season, as we prepare for a new year, I would like to thank the residents of Aroostook County for the overwhelming support they have given me during my first term in the Legislature. It has been a great honor to represent The County in Augusta.
During the first session, we accomplished some major reforms: By reforming the public pension system we helped preserve the retirement system that so many teachers and other state employees depend on, while saving taxpayers billions over the coming years. We also cut taxes for every single taxpayer in the state and eliminated income tax liability for 70,000 Mainers with low and moderate incomes. In addition, we reformed the welfare system and launched a regulatory reform program that will protect our environment while permitting businesses to flourish. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but the Legislature’s first session was remarkable for its successes.
My wife, Melissa, and I would like to extend a Merry Christmas greeting and best wishes for the new year to all the residents of The County. As always, in the coming year if you ever have a questions, comments or concerns regarding state government, please do not hesitate to contact me.
