Caribou drops swim team
CARIBOU — It’s out of the pool this winter for Caribou High School competitive swimmers. Due to only five students showing an interest in having a swim team this year the program has been suspended.
Athletic Director Dave Wakana said before the season started it was made clear there needed to be 10 swimmers to have a team.
“We will revist it next year and make a final decision as to if we will have a team in the future,” said Wakana. “There are some 8th graders who have expressed interest for next season so hopefully we will be able to field a team in 2012-2013.”
Two of the five swimmers have joined the wrestling team as an alternative.
The suspension of the Caribou High Swim team also leaves a problem for the Presque Isle High School swim team. PIHS Athletic Director Mark White says he will be meeting with the swim coach to see if there is a possibility of replacing Caribou on the schedule.
