Perham Ladies plan for Holiday Chowderfest

WASHBURN NEWS

by Tomi Henderson

The Perham Ladies will be hosting a Holiday Chowderfest on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Perham Town Office located at 206 High Meadow Road from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu consists of a variety of chowders, soups, rolls and brownie, with coffee, tea or juice as your choice of beverage.

Take-out will be available. The cost of supper is adults $5, children 3-12 years $3, children under 3 eat for free. Family rate is $20,whichever is less. All proceeds from this event will go for the benefit of Perham families.

An added feature to this fundraiser is the pie contest. There are two categories for the pie contest: the first is for the 16 years and under crowd, the second 17 years old and up. Two prizes will be awarded for each group with an additional prize for the most original overall. The judges will be casting their votes based on: best tasting and best appearance from each of the two categories; and the most original prize will be an entry from amongst all the pies entered. The pie contest judging will take place before the Chowderfest, with entries to be brought to the Town Office upper level between 4-4:45 p.m. There are three local pie lovers who have volunteered for the difficult task of judging and the Perham Ladies appreciate their contribution to the event.

It shouldn’t be a problem to let it leak out that one of the very knowledgeable judges is Washburn School Principal Ricky Bragg. Organizers are hoping to see a lot of entries as they know the region is chock full of wonderful bakers. The contest is open to anyone, just make sure your entry is clearly marked with name and contact information. All entries, after judging, will be considered donations to the fundraiser and sold by the slice. Thank you in advance to all contestants.

There will be a door prize, so please be sure to get your ticket when you pay for your meal. The Perham Ladies would like to thank everyone in the community for all the support received for their events over the years. Please know that your attendance and participation on Dec. 10 will help make a difference for some local families this winter. God bless us one and all.
