Oxbow hosts ‘Fall Into Shape’ visitors

A group of five ladies associated with the Caribou Recreation Department recently toured and visited with Oxbow Plantation residents and business owners as part of their “Fall Into Shape Program.”
Judy and Steve Sherman of Oxbow had initially been contacted by the Caribou Recreation Department’s Program Director Neal Sleeper to see if they would be interested in arranging a tour of their gift shop, Deep In The Woods Gift Shop, for the planned outing. The gift shop is typically closed on the date in question, but the Shermans decided it would be a great opportunity to devote some time to the special visitors. (Lucky for him they agreed as they turned out to be the “guides” for the day). While on the phone to schedule the day, a discussion had ensued about the group’s plans for the day which included having lunch while in Oxbow. The local lodges would be too busy with the black bear hunt (it was black bear season at the time) to host the group, so the Shermans generously offered to feed the folks at the Oxbow Community Center.

CARIBOU RESIDENTS recently traveled to Oxbow Plantation to tour the town. While in Oxbow they made a stop at the Deep In The Woods Gift Shop, owned by Steve and Judy Sherman, who also served as tour guides and hosts for the day. Pictured in the gift shop are, front: Doris Nadeau. Back row, from left: Neal Sleeper, program director for the Caribou Recreation Center; Fran McCluskey, Pam Moores, Pauline Emond and Thelma Morin.
The ladies departed from the Caribou Recreation Center and traveled to Oxbow Plantation where Sleeper gave the visitors a tour of the Homestead Lodge continuing on to the “Oxbow Flat.” Along the way the group stopped to pick some apples growing along the roadside. The ladies were then treated to a tour of the dining hall at Oxbow Lodge then proceeded to the Oxbow Community Center for the lunch prepared by the Shermans. The tour guests were served haddock chowder, rolls, ham and Swiss finger roll sandwiches and carrot cake for dessert. After everyone finished eating, Steve Sherman joined the tour, taking the guests to the Shermans’ Tree Farm. Their final stop was the Deep In The Woods Gift Shop. According to Sleeper, “the ladies had a blast and by far, the best lunch out of any that we have been on this year.” Oxbow Plantation … hospitality at its finest.
