BRIDGEWATER & PORTLAND – Mildred (Judge) Patterson, 88, of Portland, formerly of Bridgewater, died peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2011, at Mercy Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born in New Haven, CT, on May 18, 1923, the daughter of Royal and Georgiana ( Bassett) Judge, and was the youngest of eight children. She lived in New Haven until her marriage to Grover C. Patterson in 1943.
Millie and Grover lived in Branford, CT, until he built their beautiful home on Roger’s Lake in Old Lyme, CT, where they spent many good years raising their three sons. In 1967, they returned to Grover’s home state of Maine where he renovated a farmhouse on a 200 acre farm in Bridgewater. He farmed potatoes until his death in 2000. Although Millie was a city girl at heart, she grew to deeply love her life and farm in Aroostook County and considered “the county” her home. Following Grover’s death in August, 2000, Millie moved to Gray to be closer to her sons and their families. In 2007, she moved into Clark’s Terrace, an Assisted Living Facility at the Park Danforth in Portland. Her years there were filled with pleasure. She made many dear friends and thoroughly enjoyed the activities and games she shared with them.
Millie leaves her sons, Paul and his wife, Sue of Deerfield, MA; Roy and his wife, Wendy of Grey, ME; and Scott and his wife, Dianna (Drew) of China, ME. She also leaves five grandchildren: Amanda (Patterson) Kendall, Melissa Patterson, Joel Patterson, Beth (Patterson) Mitchell, and Drew Patterson; and two great-grandchildren, Page Mitchell and Max Kendall.
A Memorial service was held in Portland on November 1, 2011. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Pierce Cemetery in Mars Hill, with the Rev. Mitch Ross officiating. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill. Friends may express their condolences online at www.duncan-graves.com.
