PRESQUE ISLE — Momentum Aroostook members and the Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society are teaming up with The Crow’s Nest to present the second annual “A Toast for the Animals” — a wine-tasting and silent auction event taking place on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $15 each, with proceeds benefiting the Central Aroostook Humane Society.

A ticket to the event, being held at The Crow’s Nest, located on Maysville Street, Presque Isle, will provide participants with four wine samples and an opportunity to learn about different wines and how to pair them with certain foods.

The presentation will feature some of the techniques used in judging wines, from appearance to finish, and in assessing their overall quality. Participants also will have the chance to learn about (and taste for themselves) the types of cheeses and desserts that pair well with the four wine varieties that will be presented at tasting stations throughout the venue.

The evening’s activities will also include door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction featuring several items, such as artwork, framed photographs, crafts, gift certificates and more. The evening’s featured item is a “Bangor Getaway” package that includes an overnight stay at Hollywood Slots in Bangor and two meals at the Epic Buffet, as well as a gift certificate to the SeaDog Restaurant. Items for the auction have been donated by community members and local businesses.

“Last year’s event served as a huge boon to the Central Aroostook Humane Society — we had more than 100 people join us and we raised more than $1,000 — and we hope to repeat that with this year’s fundraiser,” Friends group coordinator Hollie Gowen said.

Organizers are hoping to see participants from last year as well as new faces at this year’s event.

“We’re hoping that people will come back out this year for a fun event that will both provide much-needed funding to help with the organization’s day-to-day operations and be a great way to support the shelter while having a good time,” said Gowen.

Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society is a group of volunteers who help with fundraisers and events, as well as spread the word about adoptable animals, upcoming events and shelter happenings. The group is kept up-to-date through periodic e-mails and a meeting once per quarter. The group was founded in 2010. Momentum members saw this as a wonderful opportunity to combine a social event with a worthy cause.

“This is an excellent opportunity not only for networking and enjoying a night on the town, but also raising money for an excellent cause,” Momentum Aroostook Steering Committee Chair Scott Violette said. “Momentum Aroostook is pleased to once again be partnering with Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society, as well as The Crow’s Nest, to host this special event for the community.”
