Presque Isle girl wins state soccer shoot
AUGUSTA — The Maine Elks Association held its annual State Soccer Shoot at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Oct. 16 and a Presque Isle girl has come out on top in her age bracket.
Taylor Williams won the U-14 division with 34 points, topping her next closest competitor by 10 points.

Williams won the grid goal competition, which is designed for the U-12 and U-14 groups. This competition consisted of a grid across a full size soccer goal. Points were awarded for various areas of the goal. Points ranged from one point in the center, to as many as five points in the top corners. The contest consisted of 15 shots from a distance of 36 feet from the goal.
Winners were determined by their total score.
The top scorers in each class from the Maine contest will advance to the Regional Soccer Shoot to be held on Nov. 4-6 at the CNY Family Sports Centre in Syracuse, N.Y.
