Treats, not sweets!
To the editor:
With Halloween just around the corner, we’re officially entering the most sugary months of the year.
Parents, have no fear this Halloween, you will not let your children down by leaning toward a healthier Halloween for your family. Focus on your child’s fun imagination by planning and preparing costumes and events rather than sugary treats. Your children will not even realize what they’re missing.
Try following these three, simple steps:
• Start your Halloween night off healthy by providing a nutritious meal prior to their trick-or-treating and encourage them to make healthy choices while they’re out.
• Limit your child’s consumption of Halloween sweets. Keep their candy in a safe, hidden spot out of the open to discourage them from dipping into it daily. Do not let them consume all of their candy in one night!
• Try passing out Halloween stickers, trinkets, or coloring books rather than candy on Halloween night.
Remember, Halloween will still be fun for your children without the overload of sugar. Wishing you all a healthy and safe Halloween this year!
