SH Marvin Tarbox OB

TARBOX, Marvin Jr., 59, BANGOR & WASHBURN, at Bangor, October 8, 2011. Marvin wanted a party instead of a funeral, which will take place on Friday, October 28, 2011, at 6 p.m., at Anah Shrine Temple, Bangor. Arrangements by Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, Damariscotta, ME.

BANGOR & WASHBURN – Marvin Tarbox, Jr. departed most unexpectedly on the afternoon of October 8, 2011. He left while doing what he loved, with people he loved, and for a good cause – driving his go-kart with the Anah Shrine Temple Go-Kart Unit. That’s what Marv was all about: having fun and helping others, anytime and anywhere.

Marv arrived on this earth August 28, 1952, the son of Alice and Marvin Tarbox, Sr. He grew up in Perham and attended schools in Washburn, graduating from Washburn District High School in 1970. He worked as a mechanic and service manager at Presque Isle Volkswagon until 1982. He graduated from Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1986. In 1987, he went to work for New England Telephone, later Fairpoint, where he was employed as a Central Office Equipment Installation Tech at the time of his death. He was retired from the Washburn Volunteer Fire Department after 20 years of service, and was a long-time foster parent for many children. In 2006, Marvin became a member of the Anah Shrine Temple of Bangor and enthusiastically joined the Go-Kart Unit.

He was predeceased by an aunt, Linda Sperrey; as well as a niece, Hillary Sperrey.

Marvin is survived by his parents, Alice (Sperrey) and Marvin Tarbox, Sr.; beloved daughter, Cassidy Ricker and her husband, David; his former wife, Susan Maynard; his sisters: Carol Mahoney and her husband, Chuck, and Mary Davis and her husband, Steve; aunts and uncles: Ruth McLaughlin and her husband, Gil, Lyman Sperrey and his wife,, Velma; nieces and nephews: Sara, Tory, Zachary, Mariah, Melissa, Michelle, Nick, Mikayla and Jayden; as well as many dear cousins. He also leaves behind his long-time companion, Kristin Blaisdell and their two canine mischief makers, Abbie and Taylor; as well as many, many close friends; Shrine and Telephone Company brothers; and partners in the business of enjoying life.

We remember Marv for his smile, his laughter, jokes and quick comebacks, his ease and enjoyment in helping others; the pleasure he took in fishing, boating, ATVing and working on go-karts; his joy in living life and having fun.

Marvin had said, “When I go, I don’t want a funeral, I want a party.” So a party it shall be! Friday, October 28, 2011, at 6 p.m., at Anah Shrine Temple, 596 Main Street, Bangor.  Everyone is welcome! For more details, please contact Jim Stanley, 207-266-4821.
