Ashland Fire Department to host hunters’ breakfast

ASHLAND NEWS

by Susan Feeney Hopkins

The Ashland Fire Department will be hosting their second annual Hunter’s Breakfast Saturday, Oct. 29 from 4-8 a.m. downstairs in the firehouse.

The meal will consist of hash browns, beans, sausage and bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade toast and pancakes. The cost for breakfast will be $5 per person and is all you can eat! Proceeds from the breakfast will go to support our fire department. Ashland Project Grad volunteers will be on hand assisting with breakfast, as well as holding a bake sale to raise money toward the project grad fund. Breakfast and dessert? Sounds too good to be true!

Come and enjoy a great meal with friends and family while supporting your local fire department. They are always there when we need them; let’s be there for them! The department thanks you for your continued support.

YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

LO-ASHLAND-DC1X-SH-42 Some residents of Portage Lake got together recently to plant 280 tulip bulbs and various other flora along the almost complete town “Fitness Path.” The Fitness Path Committee held a fundraiser selling tulip bulbs with the proceeds from the sale going toward the path. Also, $1 from each bulb sold goes to the Maine Cancer Foundation. With the help of Mother Nature, there should be a blanket of beautiful tulips embracing and beautifying the fitness path in the spring. This fundraiser is ongoing, so purchase your tulip bulbs to honor someone you love that has been affected by cancer. For more information, contact Corrine Routhier at 435-6854. Pictured planting the bulbs are, from left: Christie Dicker, Corrine Routhier and Mary Sanborn. Others who helped plant the bulbs, but were not present for the photo were Kathy Gagnon and Marcelle Gagnon.

Wesley Page of Portage Lake grew this monstrous 950-pound Atlantic Giant pumpkin from his own seeds. Page has been growing giant pumpkins for the last several years which he displays on his front lawn. Residents of the town and travelers on Route 11 often stop and marvel at the size of Page’s pumpkins. His largest was 992 pounds.
