Banquet honors city employees, retirees

On the evening of Sept. 29, the City of Presque Isle held their first annual Employee Appreciation banquet. The event was held at The Crow’s Nest with 104 attendees present to enjoy the program.

MUG SHOT — Members of the Presque Isle Police Department enjoyed a night out, taking part in the city’s Employee Recognition Dinner, held Sept. 29 at The Crow’s Nest. One of the first items on the agenda was the announcement of our first ever, Employee of the Year Award that was presented to Vicki Kinney, administrative assistant to the Police Chief at the Police Department. Vicki has served Presque Isle for 19 years and has served on many committees above and beyond her call of duty. Vicki has always taken pride in her work and is an example of excellence to all. Her husband, sister and mother were able to join in the event to congratulate Vicki in her award. She received an engraved crystal trophy and one additional week of vacation.
The following retirements were recognized:
• Robert Jackson from the Fire Department worked for the city for 22 years;
• Gerry James was the director for the Public Works Department and worked for the city for 25 years;
• Roger Ellis from the Police Department served the city for 25 years; and
• Ronald Soucier had 11 years of service with the Public Works Department and Jere Wollard, also with Public Works, served the city for 20 years.
Service awards were awarded to:
Sgt. Laurie Kelly of the Police Department received a 25-year award.
David Caron of Public Works was recognized for 20 years of service to the city.
A 15-year employee award went to Ruth Doherty of the PI Industrial Council.
Mark Lavway, Airport, and Patricia Jandreau, Recreation and Parks, were honored for 10 years of service.
Recognized as 5-year municipal employees were Nate Allen and Scott Michaud, both of the Fire Department; and Ken Arndt, Planning and Development.
Special recognition awards were given to the following employees:
Airport — Brenda Campbell, Innovation Award; and Dean Doody, Quality Control Award.
Police — Peter Johnson, Officer of the Year; Jocelyn Marquis, PIPD Employee of the Year; and Bill Campbell, Special Recognition.
Fire Department — Vincent Baldwin, Fireman of the Year; and Nate Allen, Lifesaving Award.
Solid Waste — Ron Clapper and Bev Labbe, Star of Excellence Awards.
Finance — Christina Olsen, Attitude is Everything Award; and Marria Bagley, Everyday Hero Award.
Library: Linda Randolph, Service Award; and Dianna Leighton, Excellence in Community Outreach Award.
Jim Kaiser awarded all Public Works employees for being professional and helpful during his time of acting as the interim director of the department.
Last but not least, the City Council recognized our outgoing City Councilor, Walt Elish who is moving out of the area. He was honored with an arm chair with the city seal engraved on the back of it.
The city plans to continue this program as a new tradition for our employees.
