LIMESTONE — It was a clean sweep for the Vikings at the Aroostook League Meet last Friday in Limestone.
In the girls’ race Caribou had seven of the top eight finishers and in the boys’ race Caribou captured five out of the top six finishes.
Caribou coach Thomas Beckum said the girls performed well on the 2.93-mile course.
“They were all on pace to run their fastest 5K of the season, he said. “They did an outstanding job running together and that will help them in future competitions.”
Presque Isle placed second in the meet, followed by Greater Houlton Christian Academy and Washburn.
Mackenzie Belyea of Caribou won the race in a time of 19:16. Other runners in the top 10 were: Carmen Bragg of Washburn; Katie Plourde, Nerisssa Larrabee, Chelsea Bard, Renee Dube, Robyn Larrabee and Ashley Richards, all of Caribou; Destiny Neureuther of GHCA and Shelby Condon of Presque Isle.
Matt Eager of Presque Isle was the winner in the boys’ race with a time of 16:10.
Although Eager has been strong all year, PI coach Marie Beckum said the entire team is improving.
“Projecting the PI harriers’ pace to a true 5K, the team finally got five runners under the 20-minute mark,” she said.
Caribou has been strong all year and this meet was no exception, winning by an easy margin. Presque Isle came in second, GHCA third and Fort Kent fourth.
Other runners in the top 10 were: Caleb Chapman, Ryan Washington, Jesse Sandstrom, Lucus Kinney, Ron Lund, all of Caribou; Saul Nunez of Presque Isle; Nick Bragg of Washburn; Micah Willey of GHCA; and Zeb Johnson and Brendan Wood, both of Caribou.
The County Cross Country Championships are set for today at 3:30 in Washburn and on Saturday Caribou High School hosts the PVC Cross Country Championships at noon.
