PRESQUE ISLE – Evelyn Victoria Powers, 96, wife of the late Thomas W. Powers, Sr., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members, September 29, 2011. She was born February 24, 1915, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Marin) Trombley.
Evelyn graduated from Presque Isle High School and then worked as a French translator at the Presque Isle Air Force Base. She married her husband, Tom of 57 years, settling in the area to raise her family. Evelyn was an accomplished artisan, specializing in water colors, as well as sculpture, sewing and woodworking. Her home was always open to friends and family as well as local artisans and artisans visiting the area. Evelyn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and she was also a member and past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by daughters: Jeanne Powers of Presque Isle, and Polly Powers of Watkins Glenn, NY; a son, Thomas Powers, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Presque Isle; a brother, Roy Trombley, of Presque Isle; sisters: Marjorie DeLoch of Hartford, CT, and Ruth Rowe of Oceanside, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Powers of Presque Isle; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Dale Powers; and a grandson, Christopher Powers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m., Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Main St., Presque Isle, with Rev. Raymond Morency celebrant. Relatives and friends called at the church from noon until the time of the service. Interment was in St. Mary’s North Main St. Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Dale and Christopher Powers Scholarship Fund c/o Northern Maine Community College, 33 Edgemont Drive, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
