The SAD 1 Educational Farm, located at 340 State Street in Presque Isle, is comprised of 38 acres. The breakdown includes:
• 5.5 acres of strawberries
• Three-quarters of an acre of blueberries
• Three-quarters of an acre of potatoes
• 2 acres of raspberries
• 5 acres of pumpkins/squash
• 1 acre of corn
• 1 acre corn maze for educational tours
Apples:
• Last year, the School Farm sold approximately 45,000 pounds of fresh apples.
• In 2010, 48,000 pounds of apples were processed for cider and pies.
• 3,500 gallons of cider are sold each season.
• In 2010, 15,000 eight-ounce bottles of cider were provided to school lunch programs.
• There are 2,560 apple trees on 13 acres of land.
Tomatoes:
• Approximately 1 ton of hydroponic tomatoes are sold to school lunch programs and local restaurants each year.
Strawberries:
• The School Farm averages 15,000 quarts of strawberries per season.
