Young recovering

Herb Young, a Mars Hill man seriously injured in an accident Sept. 3, continues to recover at a Bangor hospital, with his condition now listed as “fair.”

Family and friends continue to pray for Young’s speedy recovery, hoping he might be out of the hospital in time to see his daughter get married.

“Herb was moved on Saturday from the ICU to a regular room. We’re hoping for the best and that he stays stable, because his and Gail’s (his wife) daughter Abby is being married to Sam Clockedile in Mars Hill on Oct. 8,” said Sherri Cushman, who’s one of the organizers of a fundraiser for the family scheduled for Oct. 1.

Cushman said the event will benefit the family, providing money for travel and meal expenses when they head downstate to visit Young, as well as go toward other expenses they have and will incur as a result of the accident.

Several more auction items have been added to the Saturday auction lineup.

“A few items for the auction that weren’t previously mentioned include a side of beef, a 2011 two-day guided deer hunt by a registered Maine guide and a scenic fall foliage airplane ride donated by Walter Mosher,” said Cushman. “It’s really shaping up to be what we hope will be a very successful night.”

In addition, a local man has made a pledge that will not only benefit the Youngs but an anonymous cancer patient.

“A Mars Hill man, Stuart Craig, has agreed to cut off his very long pony tail if we can raise $2,000 for this. That shouldn’t be a problem. After it is cut off, the hair will be donated to Locks of Love — a double win,” said Cushman.

Auction items are still being collected and donations are welcome. Help with the dinner is also appreciated. For more information, contact Tiffany Faulkner at 227-7195 or Jamie Guerrette at 227-7194. Donations can be mailed care of: PO Box 282, Blaine, ME 04734.
