NMCC receives top honors from Historical Pavilion

PRESQUE ISLE — Northern Maine Community College again took home top honors for a business exhibit this year at the Northern Maine Fair Historical Pavilion. NMCC’s booth displayed a 1960’s style “drive-in theater” that projected photographs of students, faculty, and staff of the college throughout the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, with mini, cardboard antique cars around the booth.

RECEIVING THE AWARD for “Best Display by a Business” at the Northern Maine Fair Historical Pavilion, presented by Kimberly Smith, secretary/treasurer of the Presque Isle Historical Society, is Dustin Graham, NMCC graduate and one of the individuals who designed, set up and staffed the booth.

“We wanted to be more creative this year with our booth and to do something new and unique,” said Dustin Graham, NMCC graduate and one of the individuals who designed, set up and staffed the booth for the college. “Since the college opened in 1963 and drive-in theaters were big in the ‘60s, we ran with the brainstorm of creating a miniature model of a drive-in theater.”

With stars hanging from the ceiling to represent the night sky and the other décor, many passersby agreed the display did represent the style of entertainment from that time era. A collection of yearbooks from each of the graduating classes dating back to 1965 were on display, along with college memorabilia and other decorations to set the drive-in atmosphere.
