Washburn Rotary Club welcomes guests, feeds Boy Scouts

During the Sept. 7 meeting of the Washburn Rotary Club, the club members were honored to have District Governor Leigh Cummings and his wife, Sandy, as guests. Also attending, and introducing the district governor, was Nancy Fletcher, assistant district governor for this area. Cummings brought greetings from Rotary International President Kalhan Banerjee and spoke on his motto of “embracing humanity.”

Speaking at the Sept. 14 weekly meeting of the Washburn Rotary Club were two representatives of the Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry, Jackie Doak and Jessica Feeley. Each spoke of the current and ongoing need for financial help with shelter expenses. They also described the shelter’s goals and achievements, as well as the day-to-day needs that the shelter meets for qualifying families and individuals. Washburn is one of the six local communities served by this food pantry.
The Washburn Rotary Club served a hotdog lunch to over 100 Boy Scouts and adult leaders as part of the recent Boy Scout Camporee held in Washburn on Sept. 10. They were a great group of young people to work with, and the Rotarians involved enjoyed the experience thoroughly. After watching all of the Scouts prepare their hotdogs, one Rotary member observed, “Boy Scouts sure like ketchup!”

Birthday party

Jenesa Charles Ingraham of Washburn turned 3 on Aug. 28 and celebrated at her home with her parents Barry and Jana Ingraham, sisters Jenica and Jayden, and grandmother Ardis Humphrey. They all enjoyed a Dora the Explorer cake with ice cream. The cake was baked by mom and decorated by Nana Ardis. Jenesa especially enjoyed blowing out the candles after making a wish.

On Sept. 10, Jenesa celebrated again with a party at her home including a “Princess Castle” bouncy house, which all the kids — young and some older — enjoyed. “Yeah mom — sure you were in there to take pictures!”

Jenesa was excited to open many cards and gifts before enjoying a lunch of hotdogs and salads. The castle cake made by Nana Ardis was also a big hit, accompanied by ice cream. Attending her party were her parents Barry and Jana, sisters Jenica and Jayden, paternal grandparents Charles and Linda Ingraham, maternal grandparents Raymond and Ardis Humphrey, Uncle Joel Humphrey, Christine Turner, Brianna and Mitchell, Sarah Sines and Isaac, Jessica Aube, Norma Smith, Robert Smith, and Jasmine, Stephanie and Alex LeClair.

Correction

In the Sept. 14 issue of the Star-Herald, in the Washburn column, there was in incorrect spelling for a student who participated in the Aroostook County Shootout in Fort Fairfield over the summer. Her name should have read: Carsyn Koch. We apologize for the error and any inconvenience this may have caused.
