A benefit dinner and auction is being organized to assist the family of Herb Young, a Mars Hill man who was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Sept. 3.

Young has been hospitalized since the crash. He remains in a coma at Eastern Maine Medical Center. The dinner is being put together by friends and family, with the goal of raising funds to assist Young’s family during this difficult time. At presstime, Young remained in critical condition.

“The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Central Aroostook High School in Mars Hill. The menu consists of hotdogs, beans, rolls, coleslaw, potato salad and apple crisp. Dinner will be served 4:30-6:30 p.m.,” said Sherri Cushman, one of the organizers.

The meal is by donation.

Wally & the Virginians will be providing entertainment for the night. Several items will be up for auction, including numerous primitive items and homemade food, as well as a weekend at Echo Lake.

“Proceeds will benefit Herb Young and his family. Herb and his wife, Gail, have four children and two grandchildren,” said Cushman.

Funds raised will assist the family with medical and daily expenses, such as travel costs and housing for the family when they go to Bangor to be with Young.

Auction items are still being collected and donations are welcome. Help with the dinner is also appreciated. For more information, contact Tiffany Faulkner at 227-7195 or Jamie Guerrette at 227-7194. Donations can be mailed care of: PO Box 282, Blaine, ME 04734.
