Scholarship given in memory of Gwen Turner

The first ever Gwen Turner Memorial Scholarship was recently presented at the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp in Limestone to Heather Nadeau of Mapleton, a student at Presque Isle High School.

The award will be presented annually to a participant of the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp in Limestone. Nadeau is the daughter of Darcy and Glenn Nadeau of Mapleton.

This award will be presented annually to a participant of the ATLC. The recipient of the award must exhibit “the highest level of dedication and outstanding school citizenship, as well as high moral character which other students will strive to emulate.”

Turner supervised food service for the ATLC for over 20 years and served as a cook for SAD 1 schools for over 30 years.

The scholarship is funded by Turner’s sons-in-law: Boyd Roope, Dana McQuade, Jim Saucier, Willie Soucy, Alton Hartt, Ervin Perkins and Allen Michaud.
