Organizers say Balloon Fest 2011 delivered family-friendly fun

On Sunday, August 28th the 2001 Crown of Maine Balloon Fest came to a close in advance of tropical storm Irene.
We hope that we were successful in meeting the area’s growing expectations for family fun and excitement. This year we added food vendors, entertainment, and crafters to the festivities and hope this was well received by all those attending.
On behalf of co-chair Billie Brodsky and the entire Balloon Fest Committee I want to thank the Mapleton Lions Club for stepping up to host this year’s event, Time Wise Management in conjunction with NMDC who came forward as our title sponsor, and all our sponsors at every level for the financial support that allows us to bring these balloons to the County.
Any event like this takes many volunteers. We were fortunate that between the committee, the balloon crews, Job Corps, and the area’s service clubs we were able to utilize hundreds of volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours. All of you who count yourselves among event volunteers have our sincere thanks for a job well done.
We would also like to thank some of the groups that made events within the festival possible. They include the Presque Isle Elks for their street fair on Thursday night, the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club, Key Bank, Pines Health and Cary Medical Center for the very well attended youth day, TAMC for the bike Rodeo, the City of Presque Isle and Forum for all the coordination and cooperation with festival events, the Central Aroostook Area Chamber of Commerce, and The Northern Maine Fair Association.
