Governor’s: Variety and savings

It’s not your cookie cutter restaurant, but you certainly can order a cookie, cake or piece of pie. Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery in Presque Isle is, in a word, “unique” to the area.

Owners Tony and Sherry Sullivan opened up the restaurant in a snowstorm 14 and half years ago, and it’s been a breakfast, lunch and dinnertime fixture for many individuals and families ever since.

“We rely heavily on repeat customers, so giving exceptional service on every single visit is very important,” said Sherry Sullivan. “Of course, everyone in the region knows that a good Nor’easter can certainly put a damper on business, but rest assured if you are looking for a place to eat in a snowstorm, Governor’s will always be open.”

Variety and savings are two cornerstones of the business. All of the products are made on site, including all the baked goods.

“We have a wonderful baker that makes all of our bread, burger and hot dog rolls, dinner rolls, pies, cakes and pastries,” gushed Sullivan.

The restaurant has a senior citizen menu with slightly smaller portions with a smaller pricetag. Every Thursday is Family Night with kids’ meals for 99 cents. Plus you can sign up for the “Go Gov Club” that allows you to accumulate points for every dollar spent to get gift certificates. There are other offers and specials including a birthday discount, deal of the month and coming in January some 15th anniversary “Blizzard Buster Deals.”

Governor’s has a banquet room for up to 35 people and if you don’t want to eat in they offer a full catering service.

“We like to think that we make customer service priority one,” she said. We also believe word of mouth is very important to our business, so making sure that our customers have a positive visit will ensure positive word of mouth.”

Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery is open Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The phone number is (207) 769-2274 and if you want to e-mail the address is govpi@maine.rr.com.
