Fond memories cause a smile to naturally brighten the face at the mere mention of the County for Rev. Dr. Ginger Asel, former pastor of the Pentecostal Church in Easton. While ministering in Aroostook during the 1970s, she particularly enjoyed volunteering to teach the youth at Whited Bible Camp. Asel, an avid hiker, was first introduced to the 4,000 footers while living in Washburn when she climbed Katahdin for the first time with Sharon and Lester Bartley, formerly of Washburn/Mars Hill. When hiking the Appalachian Trail, she began peak-bagging the 48 in New Hampshire. She completed those with her son, Mike, and grandson, Nate, over the 4th of July weekend. She then completed the last two 4,000 footers in Vermont later in July. She hopes to climb the last five on her list in Maine to finish all 4,000 footers in New England.
Climbing mountains keeps her fit physically for the missions work in which she is engaged. Asel has been privileged to do so in many continents of this world. She travels extensively in Asia, training pastors and church leaders. Teaching the Bible is her passion. She particularly enjoys showing the interconnectiveness of the Old and New Testaments. She is presently completing a book on the Gospels entitled “Four and No More: Ezekiel’s Introduction to the Gospels.”
Dr. Asel will be ministering in the following three area churches over Labor Day week: 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Caribou with Rev. Roger Jewell;10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Washburn Pentecostal Church with Rev. Bruce Blakney; and 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Easton Pentecostal Church with Rev. Andrew DeRier.
