PRESQUE ISLE — A Mars Hill youth sustained broken bones when his motorcycle struck the back of a vehicle that was waiting to turn into a driveway on the Houlton Road.
“On Sunday, July 24, at 5:13 p.m. the Presque Isle Police Department, along with Presque Isle Fire Department Rescue and Crown Ambulance, responded to a car/motorcycle accident on Route 1, south of Presque Isle, by Perry’s Mini Mart,” said Deputy Chief Laurie Kelly, PIPD.
Upon arrival, Officer Rob Thibeault found a Jeep operated by Holly Fulton, 33, of Presque Isle, had been struck by a 17-year-old Mars Hill man who was operating a 1982 Yamaha motorcycle.
“Fulton was stopped in southbound traffic waiting to turn left into Perry’s Mini Mart. Dwight Dixon, 26, of Presque Isle, was a passenger in Fulton’s 2001 Jeep Cherokee,” Kelly said. “The motorcycle operator failed to notice Fulton’s vehicle stopped in traffic and struck the rear of the Jeep as Fulton attempted to turn out of the way.”
Fulton was not injured. Dixon complained of pain in his neck and shoulder and was treated at the scene. The motorcyclist sustained more serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
“The 17-year-old was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center where he was treated for broken bones in his arms and leg,” said Kelly.
Road and weather conditions were good at the time of the accident.
“We don’t know what happened. The 17-year-old just failed to see the Jeep had slowed to make the turn,” said Kelly.
According to officials at TAMC, the teenager has been transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further treatment.
No charges are pending at this time.
