Aroostook Football is announcing the open recruitment of players for the growing football program in Aroostook County.

Youth entering 5th grade through 8th grade in the fall are encouraged to sign up for a team, which practices in the Presque Isle area.

Potential middle school age players are invited to participate in the 2011 Junior Huskies (7th and 8th grades) and Pee Wee Huskies (5th and 6th grades). The Junior Huskies and Pee Wee Huskies are open to players from all communities in the central Aroostook County area.

Any questions about playing at the middle school level can be directed to Terry Kelly, Head Coach of the Junior Huskies at 207-227-0551 or Nathan Defelice, Head Coach of the Pee Wee Huskies at 207-227-0109.

Practices for the central Aroostook Middle School Football Program will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturday mornings starting on August 16th at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle. The central Aroostook Area High School Program will also follow a similar practice schedule with practices for area high school football players starting August 2nd and being held at Sincock Field in Caribou.

Potential players at the High School level are also encouraged sign up – if you are a High School student in the central Aroostook area and are interested in joining Huskies football contact the Head of Huskies Football Operations Stu Wycoff at 207-764-7651.

The Aroostook Football League also has its own website – www.aroostookfootball.org. Registration packets for all levels of teams including High School and Middle School are available on the website for download and all league news, contact information, opportunities and information on volunteerism and other items of interest are available on the site.

There is also the opportunity to play all grade levels of football for the Valley Mustangs, and the Houlton Knights for players in the Northern and Southern areas of Aroostook County. Visit the website for information related to those teams.

Middle school age kids in the Ashland area also have a new team to play on, contact the league for further information regarding the potential new Ashland team.
