Brewer earns degree in respitory therapy

William Brewer, son of Scott Brewer of Presque Isle and Barb Miller of Reedsville, Pa., graduated from Southern Maine Community College on May 22 with an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Bill attended Presque Isle High School from 1998 through 2002.

He is currently employed as a phlebotomist at Mercy Hospital in Portland.

Dicker graduates from U-Mass with master’s

Rachel Dicker graduated from the University of Massachusetts/Boston on June 3.

She received a master’s degree in environmental science and won the graduate student award for outstanding achievement in environmental, earth and ocean sciences.

She lives in Worcester, Mass., and is employed by Davey Tree Expert Company, where she is an inventory arborist.

Dicker graduated from Presque Isle High School in 2005 and Bowdoin College in 2009.

She is the daughter of Roger and Anne Dicker and is the granddaughter of Jack and Janet Duncan and Christine Dicker and the late Alden Dicker.

Boucher receives nursing award from UMFK

FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent Nursing Division presented Daryl Boucher with the Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award at its Nursing Pinning Ceremony held on May 5.

The Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award is bestowed upon a nursing graduate of the UMFK Bachelor of Science Nursing program who displays accomplishment in the nursing profession, as well as a commitment to his/her community through volunteer service and humanitarian efforts.

Boucher began his career at UMFK in 1988. He is a graduate of the Class of 1992. He has an impressive and distinguished career in nursing education and practice that spans more than 18 years.

Boucher is best known for his dedicated service as an exemplary nursing instructor to Northern Maine Community College. He received the Northern Maine Community College President’s Award in 2006, in recognition of his talents. In that year, he also received the Maine Council of Associate Degree Nursing Programs (Educator of the Year).  In 2009, he was honored with the Northern Maine Community College Instructor of the Year Award, for his teaching effectiveness, nursing program enhancement efforts and for developing new and innovative curricular initiatives.

As an adjunct instructor for St. Joseph’s College, he also was recognized for his contributions to increasing access to nursing education across the state of Maine and awarded the St. Joseph’s College Distance Education Instructor Award in 2007.

He has served as a consultant and presenter, a local dispatcher for the Fort Kent Police Department in 1988, a paramedic, a staff member and critical care flight nurse at The Aroostook Medical Center, a member and medical rescue volunteer leader for the Maine Winter Sports Center, a first-responder to one of his students who suffered a heart attack and a volunteer for Special Olympics.

Boucher is married to Stacey Voisine. The couple lives in Presque Isle, where they are raising two beautiful girls.

Boucher currently is pursuing a doctoral degree at Capella University in Educational Leadership and Management.

Brooke Beaulieu received a $1,400 scholarship from the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1954, represented by J. Roger Bernard, at graduation ceremonies earlier this summer. The daughter of Heather and Jody Beaulieu of Fort Fairfield, she plans to pursue a degree in nursing at UMO. She was an honor student, participated in sports and was active in scholastic activities and community service.
