Summer dance camp
Sarah Lowry will be returning this summer to offer “Miss Sarah’s Dance Camp.” Classes will be held at the Mapleton Lion’s Hall beginning the week of July 11 and continuing for four weeks through the first week of August. Miss Sarah’s Dance Camp offers classes in ballet and jazz dancing, along with a special boys’ hip-hop class. Miss Sarah will also be offering a “Mommy and Me” tap class from 6-8 p.m. Sunday evenings. Classes will take place on Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. Dancers in kindergarten through fifth grade will dance from 1-3 p.m. and sixth- through 12-graders will dance from 3-5 p.m. The boys’ hip-hop class will take place directly after the girls’ classes.
Lowry is currently studying dance performance and choreography at Hope College in Holland, Mich., one of four liberal arts colleges fully accredited in all four fine arts. She has held several principal roles in productions including “The Nutcracker,” “Gaite Parisienne” and “Peter and the Wolf.” She has been named director of the upcoming production of “The Nutcracker” at Hope College this winter. Lowry has recently been accepted in to StrikeTime Dance Co., an educational company which travels to elementary schools putting on productions that teach students about the different styles and elements of dance. “Last year was the best first year I could have asked for,” says Lowry of her dance camp. “I’m so excited to teach again, welcoming new faces and greeting returning campers. It’s going to be a fun camp, full of learning, new friends, and most of all, dancing!”
