THE STUDENT Senate of Northern Maine Community College recently presented the Maine Veterans’ Home of Caribou with a $986.70 check from the “Support Maine Veterans” Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament held in April.  Pictured, from left, Koralie Anderson, director of nursing at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou; Melissa Graham, administrator at Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou; Dusty Graham, outgoing Student Senate vice president; Cole Davenport, incoming Student Senate president; Wendy Genthner, outgoing Student Senate treasurer; and Dennis Albert, Student Senate advisor.

The tournament was held on April 16 in the Christie Gymnasium at NMCC. Teams were made up of students, faculty, and staff of the college, along with a number of participants from the community, including the city of Presque Isle, Presque Isle Rotary, and a team from Fort Fairfield.

“The Student Senate is pleased to host the co-ed volleyball tournament each year.      It is an event we look forward to each spring to support veterans in our area. It is one way the Student Senate becomes involved with the local community throughout the year,” said Dusty Graham, NMCC Student Senate outgoing vice president.

The proceeds from the tournament benefit the activity fund at the Veterans’ Home for various activities and supports veterans without families close by with birthday cards, presents, and Christmas gifts.

This is the eighth year the NMCC Student Senate has raised money for this cause.
