Rotarians enjoy annual picnic

WASHBURN NEWS

by Tomi Henderson

Washburn Rotary Club members and guests met Friday evening, June 24, for their year-end picnic. The “picnic” was held at the Trailrunners Clubhouse due to the wet weather that’s been occurring. This year the evening also served as a kick-off meeting for next week’s second annual Truck Pull to be held at the fairgrounds in Presque Isle on July 2.

The Rotary Club of Washburn invites the public to join them on Saturday, July 2, as they host a Maine State Truck and Tractor Pullers Association sanctioned truck pull at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds, with pulling beginning at 6 p.m.

This is the club’s second year hosting the pull, and it is their major fundraiser for the year. They will also conduct a 50/50 drawing. Last year’s 50/50 winner took home $863, and they are hoping for an even bigger purse this year.

This year’s classes include 20,000 Big Rig, 6200 2X4 Super Stock, 6200 4X4 Super Stock, 6200 4X4 Modified, 8000 Pro Stock Diesel, 7000 Gas Street Stock, 20,000 Big Rig, 6200 2X4 Super Stock, 6200 4X4 Super Stock and 6200 4X4 Modified. See you there!

GREAT BASKETBALL was played by the Washburn Beavers as they took on the alumni players from Central Aroostook’s ‘05, ‘06 and ‘08 Gold Ball teams in some action-packed play on Friday night, June 24, in Mars Hill.

Pictured from Washburn are, in front from left: Kyle McLaughlin, Michael Ericson, Nick Bragg, Kenny Irving and Jordan McLaughlin.

In the back are: Assistant Coach Mike Hartford, Mikey Forand, Mason Turner, Andrew McLaughlin, Chase Chandler, Cameron Preston, Mitchell Worcester and Coach Randy Norsworthy.

Although CA came out on top, they had to really work for it!

In round robin play on Saturday, the Beavers won their games against Houlton and Madawaska/Fort Kent before losing in a close back-and-forth fight against the Central Aroostook Panthers’ 2011-2012 players.
