Bearden vying for Miss Maine title

PRESQUE ISLE — Miss International Festival, Brittany Bearden, 20, of Presque Isle, will be competing in the 75th anniversary Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant to be held at the Crooker Theater at Brunswick High School on June 17 and 18.

Brittany, who is a sophomore at the University of Maine at Presque Isle majoring in athletic training, will present a lyrical dance to Sara Bareilles’s song “” for her talent and her platform is Childhood Obesity. She is passionate about helping young people live healthy lives, working with elementary children in Aroostook County and coaching tennis.

The Miss Maine Scholarship Program, the official state preliminary to Miss America, is a not-for-profit organization which maintains a tradition of empowering young women to achieve professional and personal goals.

Miss Maine receives thousands of dollars in college scholarships, as well as a paid trip to compete for Miss America. Each contestant, regardless of placement, earns valuable college assistance. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. This assistance is not just for the handful of young women who become Miss America, but is available to the over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local competitions as well.

The show starts at 7 p.m. both nights.
