MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

New to this year’s Mapleton Daze celebration is the “Bazaar Downtown.” This is a flea market/anything acceptable/trash and treasure sort of event that will take place all day Saturday, June 25.

To participate, please bring your own table, set it up along the sidewalk and sell or promote whatever you like! The Committee is looking to have a variety of tables set up including crafts, small business promotion, yard sale items, raffles, food (such as lemonade, baked potatoes, popcorn, water,) collectables, demonstrations, etc. This is the perfect chance to earn some extra cash for yourself, student organization, or the cause of your choice. Table slots are free with a $3 recommended donation to Mapleton Daze. Please reserve your slot early as the first 25 to register will receive the best downtown slots. For more information or to reserve/register your slot, contact Suzanne Morton at 764-4256, e-mail suzanne.libby@maine.edu, or message any member of the Committee through the Facebook Mapleton Daze website.

Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society

The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society held its monthly meeting May 24. The Society would like to thank everyone who sold or purchased candy bars this winter. As always, this fundraiser was a great success. A special thank you to Christine and Cathy for their donations. The scrubbies sold quickly!

The Society is still looking for recipes. They would like to have their cookbooks ready for Christmas 2011. Recipes can be e-mailed to dusty5799@yahoo.com or mailed to CHGHPS, 1931 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757. The public is encouraged to send many! The goal is to have at least 200 recipes. Please help the Society make this fundraiser successful!

The Society’s next meeting will be a cleaning meeting June 28th. Please consider helping get the hall ready for the busy Mapleton Daze weekend!

New members, working and non-working, are encouraged to join. The Hall rental schedule is filling up quickly. If anyone is interested in using the Hall, please call 764-4826. The Hall is available now through October.

Baptist Park news

A challenge has been submitted to all by a Baptist Park supporter. For every $1 that is raised, this donor is willing to match it up to $7,000, and the board is willing to match another $1,100. How can you help us? Send your check to Baptist Park with the words “Matching Funds” on the memo line by June 26 — the first day of camp. Only donations specified “Matching Funds” will be matched. The donor was aware of many upcoming large roofing projects, but the donor did not want to specify how the funds were to be spent. The executive board made a decision to designate 25 percent to scholarships, 25 percent to operations, and 50 percent to buildings and grounds with a priority on roofing larger buildings. Please pray for God’s will in this campaign. God continues to shower His blessings on Baptist Park! All of us at Baptist Park extend a special thank you to the donor and his/her family, and all who participate in this campaign!

We are in need of a camp nurse/health supervisor for Lifting Off Week (ages 11-14). This position requires that we have an EMT, LPN, RN, PA, doctor or a person holding a Wilderness First Aid Certificate. If you are certified and available, please contact Annette Bartlett at 852-9836 or abartlett@tds.net. Also, Adrian is looking for individuals to teach classes at Baptist Park. If you are available even for one or two days, he’d love to talk with you. He can be reached at 647-3693

or by e-mail, rhjugglesh@yahoo.com. Please add the staff to your prayer list that God may begin preparing their hearts for the mission God has planned for them at Baptist Park this summer.

We need to make an addition to the camp brochure! Baptist Park is hosting its first cheerleading camp from June 26-July 1. Presque Isle High School Varsity Cheerleading Coach Jolene Kinney has agreed to lead this camp. The camp is open to cheerleaders entering grades 7-12. The cost for the camp is $225. Cheerleaders will be perfecting cheer motions, learning proper stunting techniques, improving their jumps, practicing gymnastics, and learning cheers and pep dances. Spread the word to any cheerleader you know.

If you or your church need more camp brochures, please send an e-mail to abartlett@tds.net. The schedule can also be viewed at our website, www.baptistpark.net.
