PRESQUE ISLE — An afternoon fire at a local residence Thursday was deemed to have started in the kitchen when cooking materials were left unattended.

“The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to 56 Micmac Drive for a report of a house fire at approximately 2:17 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, we had smoke showing and quickly extinguished the fire, which was determined to have started in the kitchen when the occupant left cooking materials unattended,” said Deputy Fire Chief Adam Rider, PIFD.

No injuries were reported.

“The smoke detectors were working and alerted the resident of the fire,” said Rider.

Approximately 18 firefighters and three fire trucks responded to the scene.

“The department would like to remind everyone to have working smoke detectors and to never leave stovetops unattended when in use,” said Rider.
