’Cat girls capture County MS track title
CARIBOU — Aroostook League titles were decided last Wednesday for middle school track and field teams, with the Presque Isle girls and the Valley Rivers boys of Fort Kent capturing championships.
PIMS scored 114 points to defeat Caribou, which had 96, for the top spot among girls’ squads. Union 122 was third with 18, followed by Valley Rivers with 12 and Fort Fairfield with 10.
In the boys’ competition, Valley Rivers scored 76 points to edge PIMS (70) for the victory. Caribou had 53 and Fort Fairfield 51.

Sarah Doak of Caribou had a huge day individually, winning four events. She took the 800-meter run in 2:49.08, the 1,600-meter run in 6:02, the long jump at 12 feet, 10 inches and the high jump at 4 feet, 2 inches.
Presque Isle’s Krystal Kingsbury and Regan Nelson also were multiple-event winners. Kingsbury took first in the 200-meter dash in 30.89 seconds and the 400-meter run in 1:08.87, while Nelson led the way in the shot put (32 feet, 6 inches) and the discus (73 feet, 3 inches).
Amanda Palmer of PI had the second most individual points on the afternoon with 26. She placed second in the 100 in 14.57 seconds, second in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches; second in the long jump at 12 feet, 2-1/2 inches; and was part of the winning 4 X 100 relay team along with Rachel Hobbs, Lazareth Porquin and Madison Shaw. Their time was 1:00.26.
Mandy Graham of the Wildcats also scored well by placing second in the 200 and the 400 and third in the 1,600.
Others winning individual titles on the girls’ side were Rachel Maxwell of PI in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.41 seconds and Alexa Pelletier of Valley Rivers in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.65 seconds.
Presque Isle also won the 4 X 200 relay as the team of Hobbs, Maxwell, Porquin and Shaw finished in 2:13.66.
In the boys’ meet, the top athlete was Jeremy Gingrich of PI, who won the 100 in 12.36 seconds and the long jump at 14 feet, 9 inches, while also serving as the anchor on the 4 X 100 relay team which took first in 54.09 seconds.

Also winning events were Brandon Marcos of PI in the 200 in 27.35 seconds, Jacob O’Berry of PI in the 400 in 1:04.86, Matt Toussaint of Valley Rivers in the 800 in 2:21, Luke Bailey of Valley Rivers in the 1,600 in 5:35, Kamran Hussain of Valley Rivers in the 100 hurdles in 16.24, Matt Burtt of PI in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches; Jacob Sperrey of Caribou in the shot put at 35 feet, 9 inches; and Caleb Daigle of Fort Fairfield in the discus at 102 feet.
Fort Fairfield was first in the 4 X 200 relay, as Robbie Watson, Lance McKenney, Brandon York and Johnny Theriault won in 2:02.08.
