March of Dimes auction

Ever been to a silent auction? Well, here’s your chance! The 2011 March of Dimes March for Babies is hosting a silent auction, open to the public, on Saturday, May 21, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This fund-raising event will be held at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge on Main Street.

“There will be many items to be auctioned and all funds raised will help support the work and mission of the March of Dimes. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Thank you to the many businesses, organizations and individuals who have donated articles to the auction to help the fund-raising campaign,” said Katie Bartley, one of the event organizers.

Are you a Boston Bruins fan? How about a Red Sox fan? There will be autographed memorabilia from the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and even the Maine Red Claws. Maybe you want to get outside and start that flower garden now that it’s getting warmer out. The auction will have the flowers you need. There will be a set of three plant pots, as well as ceramic planters filled with flowers. Not a sports fan or garden enthusiast? Have no fear, there are plenty of other items to check out, including: Pampered Chef, Scentsy and Arbonne items; country club green fees, both for PICC and Mars Hill Country clubs; UMO football and basketball tickets; a Lisa Holub-Desjardin print as well as a Voscar print. These are just a few of the items available.

Not hooked yet? Still wondering if there’s something for you at this silent auction? Well, there are many more items that will be in the auction. Feel like getting away for the weekend? There will be a two-night stay at the Hampton Inn in Bangor to be auctioned. Does the woman in your life have a birthday coming up — lia sophia products will be in the auction as well as a quilted purse and a quilted table runner. Know a mom-to-be? Are you a mom-to-be? Well, we have that covered too. There will be a basket of baby items, a CASE IH toy tractor and even a Gentile Hall one-month membership for when she’s ready to kick the baby weight to the curb.

Want to stay close to home with the price of gas still on the high side? There will be Theresa’s gift certificates as well as gas cards.

“Have you started spring cleaning and realized you’re missing a few items around the house to complete the decorating? There will be many more items in the auction. There’s something for everyone. So come join the bidding and help support a great cause. See you there!” said Bartley.

Momentum Aroostook hosts Story Slam

PRESQUE ISLE — Have a story to tell? Love a little competition? Momentum Aroostook will host a Story Slam event for those who love to tell stories — and those who love to hear a good story — on Thursday, May 19, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Copper’s Lounge, located at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle. Story telling begins at 5 p.m. All members of the community 21 and older are invited to attend.

This Momentum Story Slam will be an informal, friendly competition where people tell their best real-life story in five minutes or less. Audience members will choose the winner, who will walk away with bragging rights and a $50 cash prize. Story slams have become extremely popular in recent years, taking hold in locations across the United States.

“If you love stories — to hear them or to tell them — you should attend this event,” said Rachel Rice, co-organizer for the Momentum Story Slam. “Momentum Aroostook is hosting this event, but we are welcoming everyone 21 and over — not just our membership — to attend because we know there are great story tellers of all ages out there who can help to make this a night to remember.”

The Momentum Story Slam will take place during Momentum’s regularly scheduled Networking in Real Life event, which happens on the third Thursday of each month at various lounges in the area.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive between 4:30 and 5 p.m. for networking and to throw their names into a hat if they want to tell a story during the event. The theme for this Story Slam is “Life in The County.”

The Northeastland Hotel will be providing free appetizers for this event. You must be 21 or older to attend. FMI, contact Jamie Chandler at jchandler@tamc.org or Rachel Rice at rachel.rice@umpi.edu.
