The Presque Isle boys tennis team continued its winning ways last week, at least when the squad was able to get its matches in due to the rainy weather.

Presque Isle (6-1) was able to play twice, winning at home against Caribou last Wednesday, 5-0, before blanking Old Town Friday, 5-0.

The Regional Singles Qualifying Tournament was scheduled for Saturday, but wet weather has put that event in a holding pattern. The tourney is now scheduled to be played today in Caribou. The top singles players from Houlton, Madawaska, Fort Kent, Presque Isle, Calais, Washington Academy and Caribou will participate, with the top five girls and boys advancing to the state tournament to be held later this month.

In team play, Presque Isle is in fourth place out of 15 teams in Eastern Maine Class B.

Caleb Mathers, Connor Shaw and Emerson Castro were singles winners, while the doubles teams of Osman Castro-Brock Cassidy and Mike Picard-Andrew Legassie beat Caribou and Cassidy-Liam Hughes and Legassie-Drew Barrett were too much for their Old Town opponents.

The PI girls fell to Caribou last Wednesday, 5-0, but bounced back for a 5-0 victory over Old Town Friday and is now 3-4 and in eighth place in the Heal Point standings.

Winning matches on Friday were singles players Dani Wolland, Divya Bisht and Lindsay Michaud and the duos of Elise Jones-Melissa Carson and Kayla Girardin-Chelsey Carroll.
