slated in Fort Fairfield
Youth baseball
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department youth baseball program, for 10-12 year olds as of May 1, 2011, is now organizing. Registration forms have been distributed to students at school and must be completed by parents and returned prior to participation in this program. Late registration will continue through May 27.
Participants in this program will play two games a week this summer (usually Monday and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.) beginning the week of June 6 and ending the week of July 18. Each of the teams in the league will play approximately 12 games against other teams from throughout Aroostook County on a home and away basis.
The teams from Fort Fairfield will practice twice a week after games begin in June, and will practice three or four times a week until the games begin. This is a “no cut” program, so all who wish to participate will have the opportunity to do so. For more information, or if you would like to help coach one of the teams, call 472-3882.
Pee wee baseball
Baseball for ages 8 and 9 as of May 1, 2011 is starting with a practice on Thursday, June 2 from 6-7:30 p.m. on the Fort Fairfield Middle School softball and baseball fields. Registration forms will be distributed to students at school the week of May 23. Participants in the pee-wee baseball program will play approximately 10 games this summer, mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., beginning the week of June 20 and ending the week of July 25.
Players will practice two or three times a week prior to their first game and once or twice a week after games begin in June. This is a “no cut” program, so anyone who wishes to participate can do so upon registering. For more information or if you would like to help coach, call 472-3882.
Hershey Track and Field
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will conduct a Hershey Track and Field Program for boys and girls ages 9-14 as of December 31, 2011. The program is divided into three age groups (9-10, 11-12 and 13-14) with boys competing separately from the girls.
Practices will be held at the Fort Fairfield Middle High School track Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 2:45-4 p.m. beginning on June 1. Participants will compete in the Hershey Track and Field district meet in Caribou on Tuesday, June 21 and those who qualify at the districts will then advance to the state championship meet in Bangor on July 6.

This year’s 14th Annual Memorial Day Golf Scramble will be held in memory of Fort Fairfield native Dr. Robert “Bobby” S. George, who passed away January 15, 2011 at the age of 85.
The year’s tournament will take place on Saturday, May 28 at Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield. This will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at noon. Registration will be from 11 to 11:45 a.m. The field is limited to the first 40 teams. Entry fee is $50 per person and includes a steak or chicken barbecue.
There will be a men’s division, women’s division and a mixed division comprised of two women and two men). More than $5,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top 10 net teams and top four gross teams.
Closest to the pin, longest drive and other contests will also be held. A steak and chicken barbecue will be included.
The proceeds of this tournament will go to the Fort Fairfield Athletic Boosters Club in their continued support of athletics at Fort Fairfield Middle/High School.

The fifth annual Fort Fairfield Athletic Boosters Club Sports Draw will be held Saturday, May 28 at Aroostook Valley Country Club. One hundred and fifty tickets will be sold at $100 each for over $7,500 in prizes, including the winners’ choice of a 2011 Yamaha Golf Cart, a 2011 Honda 4-Wheel Drive ATV from Harry’s Motor Sports or $4,000 in cash.
The odds of winning a prize are 1 in 15 chances. Tickets can be purchased from members of the Fort Fairfield Athletic Boosters Club and a list of prizes is given below which includes some new prizes this year.
“We’ve had tremendous support the last four years for our drawings so we thought we would continue this again this year in conjunction with our annual Memorial Day Golf Tournament,” said FFABC president Larry Gardner, “so it should be a great evening.
“All proceeds from this event will be going to some worthy causes that we are committed to that will benefit many people.”
