CARIBOU — The first local track and field meet of the season began Friday, was stopped due to heavy rains, and picked up where it left off Monday afternoon.

In the end, the host Vikings’ depth proved to be too much as they won both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
Both Caribou and Presque Isle are set to host Penobscot Valley Conference meets this Saturday, while Caribou will also host the Aroostook League Championships next Wednesday.
There were several individual standouts in the most recent meet. Caribou’s Matt Till, Christian Sleeper and Brendan Wood were all multiple-event winners, as were Fort Fairfield’s Jahleel Williams and Andrew Lewis.
Till took the 400-meter run in 53.5 seconds and also won the 200-meter dash in 24.8 seconds and the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.
Sleeper swept titles in distance running events, winning the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:53, the 800-meter run in 2:09 and the 3,200-meter run in 10:41.5.
Wood dominated the hurdles, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 17.3 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 45.9 seconds.
The Tiger duo of Williams and Lewis was impressive, with Williams winning the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 7 inches and the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet, 8 inches.
Lewis took the discus with a throw covering 129 feet and also won the shot put with a mark of 41 feet.
Other individual winners were Logan Good of Presque Isle in the 100-meter dash at 11.1 seconds, Josh Kovach of Caribou in the 1,600-meter race walk at 8:22.2; Carson Spencer of Fort Kent in the javelin at 132 feet, 9 inches; and Lance Jandreau of Caribou in the pole vault at 10 feet.
The lone wheelchair competitor, Robbie Hebert of Fort Kent, had a time of 35.2 seconds in the 100 and 3:14.9 in the 400.
AIRBORNE — Matt Eager of Presque Isle attempts to clear the high jump bar during track and field action in Caribou Monday.
Presque Isle’s 4 X 800-meter relay team, consisting of Matt Eager, Joel Shay, Logan Thibeau and Thomas Freeman, prevailed in its race with a 9:29.8 clocking.
The Wildcats also took first in the 4 X 100-meter relay, with Sam Clukey, Andrew Terpening, Ben Sipe and Logan Good finishing in 47.9 seconds.
Fort Kent won the 4 X 400-meter relay, with Spencer Levesque, Dante Naranja, Ted Martin and Tomas Weyeneth teaming up for a time of 3:57.
The Caribou boys totaled 271.5 points in the meet, with Presque Isle taking second with 170.83, Fort Fairfield third at 81.33 and Fort Kent fourth at 41.33.
Olivia Sleeper and Sarae Sager led the Viking girls to the victory. Sleeper took first in the 100-meter dash in 13.1 seconds and also came away with top honors in the 400-meter run in 1:02.9, while Sager bested the field in both hurdling competitions, taking the 100 hurdles in 17.1 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 51 seconds.

Another big effort was turned in by Washburn freshman Carsyn Koch, who was competing in her first-ever meet. Koch captured the win in the 1,600-meter run in 5:43.2 and also took the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.
Also picking up event victories were Emily Soderberg of Caribou in the 1,600-meter race walk in 8:03, Reanna Plourde of Caribou in the 200-meter dash in 29.6 seconds, Mackenzie Belyea of Caribou in the 3,200-meter run in 12:47, Kelly Kashian of Caribou in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches; Hannah Hebert of Caribou in the long jump at 15 feet, 2.75 inches; Laura Collins of Caribou in the triple jump at 30 feet, 4 inches; Logan Bubar of Fort Fairfield in the javelin at 94 feet, Meredith Stewart of Presque Isle in the discus at 88 feet, 1 inch; Morgan Swan of Caribou in the shot put at 31 feet, 8.25 inches; and Nicole Cyr of Caribou in the pole vault at 7 feet.
Caribou’s 4 X 800-meter relay team of Meredith Sleeper, Chelsea Bard, Katie Plourde and Alissa Randolph led the way in 11:37.
Fort Fairfield was victorious in the 4 X 100-meter relay, with Jessica Goshorn, Nicole Giberson, Kylie Plourde and Janae Libby making up the winning team which won in 58.2 seconds.
The Vikes won the 4 X 400-meter relay in 4:43.5, with Hebert, Dayna Michaud, Katie Plourde and Sager making up the foursome.
Team scores saw Caribou in first with 342, followed by Presque Isle with 88.5 and Fort Fairfield with 80. Fort Kent totaled 29.5 and Washburn had 20.
ANDREW LEWIS of Fort Fairfield was the winner of the discus during Monday’s track and field meet in Caribou. Lewis established a school record with a throw covering 129 feet.
