FLEWELLING, Viola J. (Gray), 94, EASTON, May 3, 2011. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

EASTON – Viola J. (Gray) Flewelling, wife of the late A. Fenton Flewelling, passed away May 3, 2011, surrounded by her family at a Presque Isle Health Care Facility, after a period of failing health. She was born February 4, 1917, in Easton, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Doak) Gray.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a dear friend. She was a lifelong resident of Easton, where she was very active in the farming business along with her husband, Fenton, who passed away in April 1982. She continued working on the farm driving truck, transporting pickers, and field boss until 1994. In 1996, the FlewellingFarms were honored as the “Farm Family of the Year.” Viola loved mowing her lawn. She also loved to cook and try new recipes. She was known best for her potato salad. For a number of years, she was employed with Vahlsing Inc. She attended the United Methodist Church, the U.M. Women’s Support Group, a 50+ year member of the Zepher Rebekah Lodge #44 of Easton, and the Starlight Rebekah Lodge #82 of Fort Fairfield.

Viola was predeceased by her husband, A. Fenton Flewelling; two brothers: Carvel and Murray Gray; and three sisters: Lela O’Donnell, Olivia Gray and Rita Dombeck.

She is survived by her brother, Hughie and wife, Joan Gray of Easton; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gray in Virginia.

Viola is survived by three children and spouses: Gaylen F. & wife, Joan, and Gerald V. & wife, Suzanne, both of Easton, and Carolyn & husband, Dennis Dodge of Hampden; nine grandchildren and spouses: Julie & Mark Sotomayer and Brent & Sandy Flewelling of Easton, Nicole & Frank Winslow of Scarborough, Bruce & Valerie and Brian & Lynn Flewelling from Easton, Heidi & Shawn Kaeppler of Oregon, WI, Holly & Scott Dunning of Hampden, Tyler & Casey Dodge of Quechee, VT, and Randy Dodge of Bangor; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends were welcomed to call at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle, at 1 p.m., until time of the service on Friday, May 6, 2011. A funeral service followed at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Interment followed at the family lot at Mt. Shiloh in Easton.
