TOMPKINS, Anna Edith (Archer), 89, Presque Isle, April 28, 2011. Interment will take place later in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

Anna Edith (Archer) Tompkins, 89, passed away on April 28, 2011, at home, with her daughter, Shirley, and son-in-law, José, by her side. She was born in Castle Hill, Maine, on December 11, 1921.

She was predeceased by her husband, Willis (Buck) Tompkins, Sr.; her daughter, Linda Katherine (Denbow) Brymer; and 10 of her siblings.

Anna was a homemaker, a volunteer for the elderly, and for 30 years, an ice cream vendor under the grandstand at the Northern Maine Fair. She loved the potato harvest and looked forward to picking potatoes every autumn in her youth.

Anna is survived by her son, Willis Tompkins, Jr., and his wife, Bonnie, from Madison, Wisconsin; and her daughter, Shirley (Tompkins Haralson) Velasquez and her husband, José, from Presque Isle. Shirley lovingly lived with her and cared for her when she could no longer care for herself in the final years of her life. She is also leaving seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. The family appreciates the care provided by Elder Independence of Maine, Hospice, and health care workers Vicky, Marisa, Terry, and Sharon, as well as her nurse, Lisa.

Interment will take place later in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels program at the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging.
