Republicans set up website to purchase mural
PRESQUE ISLE — To help Gov. Paul LePage avoid further distractions and stay focused on the job of controlling state spending and taxation, the Aroostook County Republican Committee has established www.buythemural.com to raise $60,000 so that the Governor will be able to purchase the mural for the state.
Aroostook County Republican chairman, former State Sen. Hayes Gahagan, said, “Gov. LePage was elected to control state spending and taxation; he doesn’t need any more mural-type distractions.”
In a letter to Gov. LePage, on behalf of the Aroostook County Republican Committee, Gahagan recommended the Governor use the funds to pay the federal government whatever U.S. taxpayer dollars they may be owed and thereby take full and clear title of the mural for the state of Maine.
“This will allow the Governor of Maine full discretion to place the mural in state of Maine facilities — with no strings attached!” said Gahagan.
Gahagan said he believes there are more than 60,000 Maine citizens who will be willing to contribute at least $1 to put the mural distraction issue behind us.
“Any contributions above $60,000 will be donated to the Maine State Museum,” said Gahagan.
Contributions for www.buythemural.com can be mailed to: Ron McArdle, Treasurer, www.buythemural.com, P.O. Box 28, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
Gahagan said, “We believe Gov. LePage is the right man at the right time to do the job he’s been elected to do for Maine — without further distraction.”
