Castle Hill Grange Hall news

The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society held its monthly meeting March 29. Our winter project of candy bars is coming to a close. We would like to thank everyone who sold or purchased the bars. This winter project helps us cover the cost of our electric bill each year.

Two other fundraisers are on tap for this year. We would like to create a cookbook to be available for purchase by Christmas 2011. It has been 11 years since the Society sold its last cookbook. Please feel free to submit as many recipes as you choose. Submissions can be e-mailed to dusty5799@yahoo.com or mailed to Sheena McHatten, 1931 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757-5105. Recipes can also be hand-delivered to any member. A pie social is also being planned for August or September, so please watch for more details.

The Society would like to say “thank you” to Maylen Kenney and the Washburn Regional Health Center for their respective donations.

Please keep in mind that the hall is available for rent from May 1-Nov. 1. The Society is always looking for new members. Meetings are only once a month. Volunteers are asked to consider donating an hour each month to assure that the hall stays open and available for public use.

Save your pennies

Mapleton Elementary School will be kicking off its annual penny drive for the Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C-A-N-C-E-R) golf tournament beginning Monday, April 25. Students and staff will be collecting their pennies (and other change and bills) as a fundraiser to sponsor a hole at the C-A-N-C-E-R golf tournament.

The tournament is a fundraiser to help those in treatment for cancer in our area and will be held June 4 at the Presque Isle Country Club. Donations will be collected until May 20. Last year, the school sponsored a hole and sent two teams to participate in the tournament. Anyone wishing to make a donation can stop by the school’s front office.

Mapleton Baptist Tour to visit Nova Scotia Tattoo

The 2011 Mapleton Baptist Tour will feature great food, plenty of shopping time and the exciting Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax. Quite simply, the Tattoo is the world’s largest indoor show. Featuring over 2,000 world-class Canadian and international military and civilian performers, the Tattoo continues to live up to its reputation as one of the world’s premier cultural and entertainment events. It is a fast-paced, two-and-a-half-hour family show featuring music, dance, acrobatics, drama and comedy in a number of innovative acts. The Tattoo is held at the Halifax Metro Centre, a modern, air-conditioned arena located in the very heart of downtown Halifax.

This deluxe motor coach tour leaves Mapleton Tuesday, July 5 and returns Friday, July 8. This tour will have a professional driver and escort. Please note that this tour requires appropriate documents for international travel. Trip brochures are available at Goin’ Postal, 26 North St., Presque Isle or by calling Ken Phelps at 764-6776.

Spring cleaning?

The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club is now planning for their gigantic yard sale, which will be held in September. During spring cleaning, if residents find themselves with items they would like to donate now (no clothing please), please call Linda Pelletier at 762-3741. All proceeds will benefit the building fund.
